Italian CrossFitters at the CrossFit® Semifinals: there is also Tommaso Pieri

Did you understand that we at CrossMag are super proud of our Italian CrossFitters in the Semifinals, real? We interviewed Clare Salandra, Elisa Fuliano e he couldn't be missing: Tommaso Pieri.

This great Tuscan athlete finished 17th overall in Europe and already has a long history of achievements and achievements in our sport.

Now, along with his coach Frederik Husson, is focusing for win an invite to Madison in August, but we let him tell us this, in this pre-semifinals interview!

Hi Tommaso! In the meantime, congratulations on your excellent results! For those who don't know you, tell us who you are and where do you train?

Hello everyone! Thanks for this interview!

So, I'm Tommaso Pieri, I'm twenty-five and I've been training for more or less seven years (January 9, 2015).

In my Lucca, the city where I was born and whom I love, I practically walked all the boxes until I found “home” at CrossFit® Bad Beast.

I have been here since 2020 and I can say that it was my real breakthrough. Here I have everything that allows me to train one hundred percent, people, indeed friends who cheer for me and very strong athletes with whom to train in order to perform at my best every day.

In short, we all row together towards a common direction: to be the best at what we do.

We know you were a footballer and you decided to totally change sport. How was this transition phase? What made you passionate about our sport?

I played a lot of sports since I was a child, then after a lot of batspersonal sizes I managed to get my parents to send me to play soccer.

I have to tell the truth, as much as I believed in myself, I was not at all talented. For this reason, after a few years, our paths have divided.

When I quit, I felt like I was being abandoned and felt very "empty", with no purpose.

One day a former teammate of mine called me and told me that after he quit playing he had joined this specialized CrossFit® gym. He suggested that I try and I launched myself.

Seven years later I can say that I made the right choice. I like to say that CrossFit® saved me and gave me something to believe in again.

In fact, your results speak for themselves! Since 2018 you have participated in high level competitions; is there any competition that has remained in your heart?

The way I am, I tend not to think about competitions anymore once I have completed them. The only one I will always remember is Fall Series 2019, Junior category: I qualified third overall.

The "why" I would prefer to keep it to myself, it is not yet the time to reveal it.

Wow! Really? Then we will wait for this moment to come sooner or later! Meanwhile, let's talk about the Quarterfinals: 17th overall in Europe! How did it go? What were your feelings?

For the whole weekend I had only one goal: to confirm or improve last year's placement.

Although I was behind the schedule in the first two days, I didn't think about the classification and I focused on doing my best in the last test.

It went well and both my coach and I are quite satisfied with how it went.

Did you have any difficulties in any wod?

I'm not a top in workouts that involve a lot of explosiveness, so I was very worried about Test 5.

In fact, it was the one that gave me the most satisfaction. The "problem", or rather, the workout that spoiled my average in the rankings a bit, was test 3.

The shuttle runs slowed me down a lot and I couldn't handle them well.

Indeed in test 3 you had a very good placement, 16th overall. How did you react seeing the ranking?

In the programming that I follow, di ring muscle ups e ghd sit ups, there are several of them every week.

As soon as the test was made public, Frederick and I looked at each other and without saying a word we understood that in that workout it was mandatory to attack and do well.

Congratulations, because you did it great! In which semifinal will we see you and what do you expect?

I will attend strength in depth, London, June 10-11-12. I knew I was destined for this Semifinal: I have never been to London and I was just waiting for a good reason to go there.

I don't know what to expect and, I'm honest, I don't even think about it. As I am, the workouts should come out the day before the race, in order to make it even more interesting.

How are you preparing yourself? Do you follow any programming?

Yes, my schedule is Ronin Athletics, by Frederick Husson, I have been following it since 2020.

Actually, I've known Fred for 7 years… He gave me my first OnRamp lesson. I think there is nothing more to say other than that I am, truly, from God.

For the rest, how effective this programming is, the results will speak.

Just to close, can you tell us what your goals are for the 2022 season?

My goal for the 2022 season is only one: the CrossFit® Games.

And we wish you so with all our hearts! Guys, follow Tommaso Pieri not to lose any of his results in the next semifinals!
