Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson will retire from CrossFit® and become a professional actor

The best Icelandic professional athlete of the CrossFit® Games, Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson, also known as BKG, has announced that this season will be his final season in competitive CrossFit®.

The reason for Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson's retirement

It was April Fool's day guys! don't worry… we'll see it again at the Games!

Anyway, here's what he read on his Instagram profile:

“I have an IMPORTANT announcement. This will be my final season of CrossFit® Games. Anyone close to me knows that I have always had a dream of becoming an actor and that once my racing career was over, I would start chasing that dream.
However, a few months ago I was presented with an opportunity that I simply couldn't turn down. Getting to take on the role of a character who inspired me as a kid and played a big part in shaping my life.

I will become SPORTACUS.

It was very difficult to remain silent about this, especially since I took dance lessons, singing lessons and acting lessons every week in addition to training. Shooting on a feature film will begin in September and then in January production will begin on a brand new LazyTown series ”.

LazyTown creator and current Sportacus, Magnus Scheving, is one of my greatest acting models. Passing the role and guiding me through my first steps in my acting career is something I would never have dared to dream of.

Excited is not a strong enough word to describe how I feel. "

The Lazy Town television series

For wikipedia , “LazyTown (Icelandic: Latibær) is an Icelandic children's television music series.

It was created by Magnús Scheving, an aerobics champion who also plays the character of Sportacus and is based on his Icelandic plays Áfram Latibær! (itself based on an Icelandic children's book from 1995) and Glanni Glæpur í Latabæ. "

sportacus is a mustachioed and hyperactive superhero who teaches the inhabitants of Lazy Town (“the city of the lazy”) the importance of healthy eating and movement.

At his side are the children who populate the town: Stephanie, a nice and athletic girl with pink hair and grandson of the mayor of the city, Mr. Pacifico Pensabene, Ziggy, an overweight boy with a greedy lollipop, Solomè, miserly and possessive, Trixie, the true free spirit of Lazy Town and finally Pixel, a great lover of technology and computers.

Robbie Rancido is the villain of the series who tries in vain to stop Sportacus from helping the inhabitants of Lazy Town.
