Chad 1000X Hero Wod: a new workout to try!

Anyone who has followed this year's CrossFit® Games will have seen that they advertised a new Hero WOD (you don't know what a Hero is? we explained here) and in our opinion it really deserves to be highlighted!

This time in honor of the US Navy Seal Chad Wilkinson, who committed suicide on October 29, 2018.

After suffering several mental traumas during his time in the war, Chad ended his life. Thus, the "Chad 1000X Hero WodWas created to honor the war hero.

How did the idea of the Hero Wod come about?

The idea started from the director of the Games, Dave Castro, who knew Chad personally, as they were friends and comrades in the Navy:

“A few weeks ago we lost an American hero. A friend of mine and someone I worked with when I was in the Navy, ”Castro said.

It was when he said goodbye to his friend that Dave thought of honoring Chad in the form of a workout.

“At the funeral, his wife recounted how Chad did 1.000 step ups holding a 45lb (20kg) weight on a 20 'box while training to climb Mount Aconcagua. Tonight I did this training with James Hobart, Adrian Bozman and Jimi Letchford. We did it to celebrate him and to honor his memory ”.

Thus, the “Chad 1000X Hero Wod” became the training to do every 11 November, date of "Veteran's Day" in the United States. With this, the event became a way to celebrate Chad's life.

Much more than a WOD

Even if it's a tribute, the “Chad 1000X Hero Wod” turned out to be something more.

After all, his wife, Sara Wilkinson, along with the couple's friends, have created an opportunity to help people who find themselves in a situation similar to Chad's.

“It is a silent disease in which symptoms, triggers and warnings are often acknowledged too late. Chad is not alone, this is a silent epidemic against an enemy who silently sneaks into our homes and must stop. We want to use Chad's life and legacy to raise awareness in suicide prevention. Our hope is to remove the stigma of mental health and to encourage people to help, one step at a time, no matter who you are, ”Sara explains.

Therefore, a fundraiser has been created, through the sale of special T-shirts for the “Chad 1000X Hero Wod”, where all proceeds will be donated to mental health programs funded by the Navy SEAL Foundation:

“Our goal is to honor Chad and all the veterans who are fighting every Veterans Day. I hope you will join me and our community in doing the Hero WOD that Dave Castro named after my husband Chad, supporting the Navy SEAL Foundation "
