Cow's milk or vegetable milk? What is the best for our health?

Nowadays we see the milk vegetable on all supermarket shelves near the cow milk; milk of soy, almond milk, rice milk, nut milk, coconut milk, oat milk, cashew milk and even pea milk!

Choosing a plant-based product seems like a healthy and healthy choice, but will it be true?

Is plant-based milk really better than cow's milk?

If you prefer to drink cow's milk, there is no reason to switch to plant-based milk!

Cow's milk is a good dietary source of Vitamins e minerals necessary; it contains vitamin C,  Vitamin A, football and a number of other micronutrients.

There is no nutritional requirement to prefer plant-based milk over cow's milk!

If you want to opt for a plant-based option for intolerances, allergies or other reasons, you can get the same nutrients by choosing the product carefully.

For added safety, calcium supplements can be taken if needed.

How should I choose a plant milk if I want to change?

The quality of plant milk varies a lot from the point of view of nutrients; some contain the same amounts of nutrients as cow's milk, others far less. For example, almond milk is lower in protein than cow's milk.

If you want to switch to plant-based milk, be sure to read them well nutritional labels and choose a product that has good levels of protein, vitamin D, iron and calcium.

Some types of vegetable milks also have another drawback: they don't taste good; producers try to overcome this problem by adding sugar and other additives that are to be avoided, so always choose a milk to low in added sugars.

What about the environmental impact?

Plant-based milk is superior to cow's milk when it comes to the environment; plant-based products are less burdensome from an environmental point of view than products of animal origin.

If your goal is to contribute to carbon reduction, then plant-based options may be the ideal solution.

Are there any reasons to avoid soy milk?

Until recently, it was feared that the soy, which contains isoflavones, (a type of human-like plant estrogen) could increase the risk of breast cancer and endocrine disorders.

These theories were widely denied; the only problem with soy products is allergy.

Are there any other health reasons to switch to plant-based milk?

Although higher dairy intake has been associated with a lower risk of colon cancer, some studies have linked it to a higher risk of advanced prostate cancer and a higher incidence of ovarian cancer, but the evidence isn't very strong.

Until more information becomes available, there are no official recommendations advising people to eat more or less dairy based on the study results.

However, if you or a family member run a very high risk for any of these conditions, contact your doctor to find out if diet can affect your likelihood of developing cancer.
