CrossFit® Open 2021: registrations are open

The new year brings with it an air of freshness and, as we have already communicated to you, there have been some changes for upcoming CrossFit® competitions; the first of these will already be seen inOpen 2021, which can be done with or without equipment.

Since there are so many new features in our sport, let's start from the beginning and explain in detail everything there is to know about the Open.

What is the Open?

The Open is one competition, or rather, it is the largest online world race, which will begin the11 March 2021.

It's the first step to going to the CrossFit® Games and maybe being crowned "the fittest man" or "the fittest woman" of the world.

After this phase, some of the athletes will go to the quarter-finals (week of 5th April), which will also be online and the best ones will go to one semi-final in attendance.

Recall that if you intend compete in a team, everyone must be from the same box; the best will compete in the quarter-finals (week of 19th April), probably together as a team. Finally, there will be the semi-finals in attendance.

Who can register for the Open 2021?

Anyone who wants it.

from On January 7, registrations are open.  Go to the official website, click on “sign up” et voilà. You pay for one $ 15 fee this year (approx 12 €) and create an athlete profile (if you don't have one).

It is not necessary to be registered in an affiliate box, this is worth remembering!

And what are the events like?

This year there will be three tests. One a week (perhaps) to starting from 11 March.

The races are held on Thursday and your result (time or number of reps) must be posted on the official website by next Monday at 17pm!

This year, due to the pandemic, there will be one version with and without equipment.

The version with basic equipment will require: a dumbbell (if like in previous years, it will be 50/35 lbs), a rocker, a boxa Rope and bar for pull ups.

If you don't have access to any equipment, that won't be a problem! A version of the WOD adapted: all you will need is one space at home, in the garage or in a park.

The races are always super challenging and above all fun. The genius of the Games director, Dave Castro, is undeniable. It will surely be memorable 😊

And everyone in the world does the same WOD?

Yes, at least in the same age group!

There are several in CF: 14-15 years, 16-17 years, 18-34 years, 35-39 years, 40-44 years, 45-49 years, 50-54 years, 55-59 years and 60+ years.

Plus this year we will have so much anticipation category of adaptive athletes!

The great thing is that you can compare your condition with the rest of the world! In 2018, more than 415 people signed up!

But I still don't know how to do all the skills ... so what?

Don't worry, there is scaled category, where there are WODs adapted for the most difficult skills! There are no excuses!

And how do I know if a person hasn't lied about their score?

One cannot know. In principle, all wods must be done in the presence of an accredited judge and validated by the box owner.

If you are racing from an unaffiliated box, you must film and upload your training video. Usually the coaches of the same boxes act as judges. If you think you can move on to the next step, register and submit the video, the CrossFit® team will analyze it.

If any problems are found or no rep, your score will change.

Even though I know I don't have a chance to move on to the next step, is it worth participating?

Absolutely yes! The Open 2021 will surely be an incredible experience and we will explain it to you in the next article!
