CrossFit ® Games: Ellie Turner will not participate in 2024 season

La The 2024 CrossFit® Games season ends for Ellie Turner. After posting his score of 24.1 in the first week of the Open, Turner made the decision to withdraw from the competition.

After Emma Cary, It's Ellie Turner's turn to announce that she won't be taking part in the Games this year. The athlete stated on her Instagram account:

“I am devastated and still trying to come to terms with the fact that I will not be participating in what would have been my seventh season,” before adding that she is neither in good physical nor mental health.

Here is the post he published:

“I'm devastated and still trying to process the fact that I won't be in what would have been my seventh season. I love competing and I know I want to do it for a long time, which sometimes means making a short-term sacrifice for a long-term gain. I'm not healthy, mentally or physically and haven't been for a while now, and that's not how I like to compete.

I know what I want to achieve and honestly, participating in the season this year wasn't going to bring me closer to that goal overall. But that doesn't mean making this decision was easy.

This also doesn't mean I won't be competing all year, I'm just taking a step back from the 'traditional' CrossFit season® Games and hope to return to the competition field later this year.

I'm not okay right now, but I know I'll be okay. CrossFit® it's what I do, not who I am and I know I'll make the best of the situation!

Goodbye for now, but not for long!”

The announcement comes a few weeks after that CrossFit® denied your regional exemption request to compete outside of Northwest America. Furthermore, Turner was already returning from one difficult participation in the CrossFit® Games 2023, due to a accident to the back.

Ellie Turner's decision to take a step back from the competition raises questions not only about its future, but also about the current state of athlete well-being in the world of CrossFit® and high-intensity sports in general.

This leads us to reflect: qHow important is the balance between mental and physical health in achieving sporting excellence? And you, how do you evaluate Turner's decision to take a break for his well-being? We look forward to seeing you in the comments!
