Evelin Meler: the post interview CrossFit French Throwdown 2019

Very young but with enormous potential, Evelin has shown everyone what she is made of. The last time we talked to her, this nice girl from Treviso competed in the Junior category for her box, Crossfit Foundry. This year, she flew up to Paris to participate in the event CrossFit French Throwdown 2019, bringing home an excellent result in the Intermediate category. But you will tell us this in this interview below!

Hi Evelin. Here we are again, thank you very much for this second interview, this time after the French Throwdown. We congratulate you on your placement, definitely remarkable!

"Thank you guys, honored with this interview!"

Then, last weekend you participated in the French Throwdown, one of the most sought-after European level competitions and you were the only Italian in your category (intermediate woman). How did you feel?

"I'm really happy to have participated in an international experience, in the midst of European and non-European athletes! This made me realize the importance of this race. It was the first competition in which I had to speak only in English with my opponents and this excited me a lot! "

In fact, it must not have been easy. Well, speaking of difficulty, in the first workout was there to run 8,5km? We have heard that there was a change at the last moment, how did you experience it?

"Yes, we had to run 8,5km but during the briefing, just before the start, they told us that we would only have made 3km for too hot (my battery was at 12.30) and so for our safety they made this change. I was a bit puzzled also because I was mentally prepared to run a lot and to maintain a medium-low pace! "

And among all the WODs, which ones have you had the most difficulty? Did you believe you can't do it?

“In the 5: 5 Round event of 10 sumo deadlift high pull at 30kg, 10 shoulder to overhead at 30kg, 3Ring MU and 3 Bar MU in 15 '.

In the 15min I only completed 3 rounds and finished the 4th round barbell movements (3R + 20, so to speak). When I tried it in the garage it went better, I was just missing the 3 final Mu bars. In the competition I was completely stuck on the Muscle up bars, unlike the rings which, strangely, came out to me, even if only one at a time. I really don't know what happened, but I had no strength left, I stopped for minutes trying to get on that bar. I finished 15th out of 20, after that event I was really mentally depressed. "

In the last interview we did, you told us you wanted to go to the French Throwdown maintaining the top 10. Are you still 11 °, are you happy with your result?

"Yes, 10th place was my dream, but already after the first day I realized that it was really difficult to reach it, I missed it by two points, which I could earn with 3 cents less in the 1B event: 100mt sprint! This was a great lesson for me: you mustn't give up even a second in the race! But I can still be satisfied to be the first year of competition, and the youngest in the competition! "

Great, you did a good job. But in your opinion what is the skill you need to improve the most for the next ones?

"Bar muscle up, damn you [laughs]. No, everything can be improved, from the box jump, to the bar, to the race ”.

How are you and your coach Claudio Persico working for the next races? Do you have any in sight?

“Yes, for this year we have Fall Series in view in December, for next year instead, I would like to try to qualify for the Dubai Championships, maybe !!

After the French we did 1 unloading week, now it put me back under it! "

Instead we know that you do Sports Science at university and follow other musical activities and personal trainers. How do you organize yourself so that you can do everything?

"I run like a top! There are days like Monday / Wednesday / Friday where I work 9h in the gym and I only find time to train and I can't even study. On Tuesday and Thursday I am a little freer because I do 3 classes at the 5, so I study in the morning while I work out in the afternoon. Some evenings a week and weekends instead I dedicate myself to social life! "

You told us that you don't follow a specific diet but try to eat well. Do you continue on this line or have there been changes in your diet, becoming more focused?

"I continue in this direction and I think it is the best, we are not made to follow a diet for life, it would be impossible! Just think about who you drop after the first week, and I'd be one of those [laughs]! I try to eat well and do it even better under the race! "

Thank you so much for talking to us. You could leave a comment to our readers who have the desire to pursue a career as a professional athlete but do not yet know what it entails or if it is feasible in conjunction with other personal commitments.

"In my opinion it's all a matter of priorities, I know it's a cliché but" wanting is power! " If you love to train and want to aim high, do it! Put the workouts in the foreground (even before the spritz, and I'm Venetian eh!) And push! It will cost many hours of training and liters of sweat, but if that's what makes you happy, guys, nothing can hold you back ❤️ "

Thanks for the interview guys, see you next time!
