A 2008 study sought to understand whether using ginkgo would reduce all types of dementia and examined the impact on blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and stroke; the results of this study show that ginkgo is not useful in preventing dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

However, another 2014 study showed that this plant proves useful for benefiting people who already have Alzheimer's and take cholinesterase inhibitors.

Other recent studies have shown that ginkgo is useful for relieving positive psychotic symptoms in people with chronic schizophrenia who are taking antipsychotics, for erectile dysfunction caused by the use of antidepressants, and for relieving symptoms of PMS.

RISKS OF HIRING

Ginkgo biloba is generally safe for healthy people who use it in moderation e no more than six months; serious side effects are very rare.

However, the Food and Drug Administration does not regulate ginkgo and other similar herbal supplements, so it is often difficult to understand what is inside these supplements; remember to always consult your doctor before taking it.

Ginkgo can increase bleeding so do not use it if you have a bleeding disorder or are already taking medications that increase the risk of bleeding.

Don't take ginkgo supplements if you are diabetics or suffer from hypoglycemia, as this supplement may lower blood sugar levels.
