Hyaluronic acid: properties, use and benefits

Due to prolonged ed excessive physical exertioni, sporting activity can cause damage to cartilage of the joints subjected to the greatest load, especially the knees, hips, cervical and lumbar spine.

Osteoarthritis can occur even at a young age if you practice too much sport without the right precautions for loading and unloading training.

Cartilage and joints are anatomical structures subject to wear and this situation can cause a chronic pain which can cause disability because the joint hurts and the person tends not to move.

In these cases, however, the situation worsens because the immobilization also leads to one less joint lubrication, whereby the joint continues to work under increased effort.

How to strengthen but muscle?

A targeted physical activity and a good control of body weight they help to strengthen the muscles, to increase the elasticity and oxygenation of the tissues, but to recover joint motility and reduce symptoms, the intra-articular injections a basis of hyaluronic acid, which restores the viscoelasticity characteristics of the synovial fluid which is the joint lubricant.

The use of hyaluronic acid:

Hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by our body and it is a fundamental component of synovial fluid that is, the liquid that has the function of lubricate the joint and protect it from impacts.

Unfortunately, the production of hyaluronic acid slows down with advancing age and therefore there is a greater wear of the joints which lose their protection.

Hyaluronic acid can be used in different ways depending on its molecular weight. In general, hyaluronic acid improves the lubricating activity of the synovial fluid allowing a more fluid and frictionless flow between the bones that make up the joint, making movement free and smooth.

Low / medium molecular weight hyaluronic acids perform abiological activity and metabolic stimulus, helping to slow down and stop the progression of osteoarthritis.

Especially high molecular weight hyaluronic acid allows a better cushioning activity which allows to cushion the blows, trauma and joint loads in case of heavy operation of the joint.
