Interview with Marina Novelli: the winner of the Master 44-49 category at Wodapalooza 2022

new marina

There was last weekend one of the most anticipated competitions of the season, one of those races that you watch and shout "wow".

On the hottest floor in Miami many Italian athletes have gone down this year, who have really represented us in an excellent way!

All of them certainly made us sweat and scream and cry seeing them fight, and there is someone who has reached that coveted podium in earnest: Marina Novelli, alias, Bambolì.

And we have a preview interview for you:

Hi Marina! Meanwhile, CONGRATULATIONS! It is a real honor for us to interview you! We know that you have been in sports since you were a child… How old are you now that you are "officially a crossfitter"?

Hi everyone, thanks guys! So as you already know my name is Marina Novelli, I am almost 45 years old and I am an independent athlete.

I have been practicing CrossFit® for about 11 years and in the last 10 years I have competed both nationally and internationally, up to participate in the most important events in the world such as the CrossFit Games and, indeed, the Wodapalooza.

Here, in fact we wanted to get here! Why did you decide to join this year? What made you want to fly to Miami?

This year was my second participation. In 2017 I won third place in the master 40 category.

It was a great result for me, but this year's victory was undoubtedly the best milestone I've ever achieved in my career.

Full of experience of emotions and great satisfaction.

How did you prepare to compete in Wodapalooza 2022?

This is a race that takes place in a somewhat particular period of the year for those who are preparing for a possible participation in the Games.

So I honestly had no idea of my potential fitness level at the time. I kept my legs very high, around 90% until the day before the race.

Without a doubt what helped me the most was a great determination to do well and a strong dose of mental stability.

During the preparation period I was followed by my sponsor's staff yamamoto: dr. Trapani and Silvia Matta who took care of both my diet and the supplementation to be followed before, during and after the race in detail.

What was the most complicated wod? And which one did you like the most?

During the race there were obviously workouts that were more difficult for me than others, and undoubtedly what I feared most was the row / swim / run, since I am not particularly skilled in swimming.

But if I have to be completely honest, at the same time, it was the proof that I liked the most and probably the one in which I performed better than I expected.

How do you evaluate the organization of the race? Were there any problems? Can you tell us about your award ceremony?

Unfortunately on the last day that whole area of Miami was hit by a violent storm and many delays accumulated in the batteries.

In addition, there were great difficulties in updating the score. This made it impossible to close this experience with a worthy award.

But I don't give up ... who knows, maybe next year 😉

Relaxing moments off the floor: what did you do? How was the atmosphere in Miami?

I was a guest in Miami by a dear friend and her brother whom I have known for years, this probably helped me a lot to "dilute”The tension of the race, living a normal daily life with them, far from that context.

I believe that in such high-sounding events it is important to be able to “isolate oneself” so as not to fall into the error of letting oneself be distracted or excited by an internship of this magnitude.

What will your next challenge be?

I am now in preparation for the Open, which will start shortly, and clearly my goal is to be able to qualify for the third time to the CrossFit Games.

It won't be easy because there are only 10 slots available, but I will definitely do my best.

And we wish you so with all our hearts! Before leaving, would you like to send some messages to our readers?

I wanted to thank all the Italians who wrote to me and cheered me on in recent days! This really made me a great pleasure!

Thanks also to you at Crossmag for this interview and hello to all CrossFit® fans! See you on the floor!

Marina Novelli!
