Jason Khalipa teaches us the AMRAP mentality in 3 simple steps

There are athletes who make a difference e Jason khalipa it's just one of them. Born in California, Khalipa attended 8 Games, taking home a nice first place in 2008. He explained that he uses a simple technique to face the proposed challenges: the AMRAP mentality, the same modality that he uses in all areas of his life.

In fact, he has a beautiful story to tell: for over 18 years he has had a relationship with his wife Ashley and together they take care of their 2 wonderful children Kaven and Ava (who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2016).

Together this beautiful family built an empire; they have a chain of branded boxes Nc.Fit and they are very united in facing every difficulty; their secret? As mentioned before, the mode AMRAP! Now let's see it specifically in 3 simple steps.

THE AMRAP MENTALITY

Jason says the AMRAP mindset can be comparable to cycling - you never forget it. It consists of 3 phases:

TO FOCUS

When you do an AMRAP workout, you don't stop in the middle to chat with a friend or use your cell phone, you just focus on the activity at the moment. Same thing when you ride a bike: you have to concentrate on the road, otherwise you risk falling.

Jason says that in 2009 he was walking on the street with his wife, pushing his son's stroller and his wife at one point looked at him and asked him: "Jason, what do you think?" Jason replied: "What are you talking about?"

At that moment he realized that he was not completely present, his body was there, but his mind was thinking about the next CrossFit © Games event.

Also that year, Jason crashed to the ground during an event and finished 72th out of 74 competitors in that heat.

The following year it fell to the ground after several failed attempts Snatch during the WOD Amanda.

Aware of the concept of concentration, Jason decided to seek help from a psychologist, who taught him that there are two types of situations:

a) Those you can control

b) Those you can't control

The things you can't control are: weather conditions, your opponent's performance, which WOD will be announced and many more.

The things you can control, on the other hand, are: warming up, doing your best during training, getting enough hydration, etc.

Jason has realized that all the things that are out of his control are only distractions. You need to focus only on what you can control.

RIDE

The second step to staying on the bicycle is pedaling: if you don't pedal, you fall.

Applying this to a training session means giving your best, pushing yourself beyond the limits. It's useless to leave things to chance, you really have to try your best to complete a WOD.

Therefore, the second step in learning the AMRAP mentality is to do everything possible to end a workout with the awareness of have given their best.

CHANGE GEARS

In 2009 Jason officially got engaged, participated in the Games and opened his first box! His relationship was booming, he was competing at the highest levels of CrossFit © and his business was growing dramatically.

In order to maintain general balance and continue to grow, he had to learn to change gears, like when you ride a bicycle.

Jason wakes up early to train and is 100% focused on that. At the end of the training, he goes home to his wife and shifts gears by stopping thinking about training and starting to fully focus on home and family.

When he leaves the house and goes to work he shifts again, he stops thinking about the family to think completely about his business, focusing on what he has to do during the day.

Here is the simple third step: shift the focus of attention; the previous task is erased from the mind and one thinks actively only of the present moment!

In conclusion…

The AMRAP mentality can be applied to different areas of your life and it's like riding a bicycle!

Just follow 3 simple steps: first you need to to focus exclusively on the task that is taking place, then you have to ride so as not to fall (work hard and give your best) and, finally, it is necessary change gear when the situation changes (home, work and training).

What do you say? Must try no?
