Mathew Fraser talks about his favorite moments of 2020!

Matthew Fraser

2020 is over, but we like to remember it as a chaotic year where everything happened. From global COVID pandemic which has completely changed our sport, Glassman's resignation, To sale of the brand ad Eric roza.

In short, there have been many moments, good and bad, but who better than defending champion, Matthew Fraser, man more Fittest on Earth, can you tell us what your favorite moments of 2020 were?

In this beautiful interview released on the site Morning Chalk Up, we have selected some passages that we think are noteworthy!

As we could have imagined, he could not identify a single moment, but he divided them into categories. He first talked about his favorite moment on the competition field, and rightly we are reminded of that epic Atalanta finale where he and Tia-Clair Toomey crossed the finish line hand in hand:

“Crossing the line with Tia was special. It will be a memory that I will carry in my heart forever. This is a story that I will tell my children, my grandchildren. That was a very strong moment for me and Tia ", Fraser said.

That moment was the culmination of a season that gave him a hard time, but also to Toomey and her husband and coach Shane Orr.

“This year has been quite special for me and Tia. We've been through a lot together. This is the first season that I have trained with someone full time. I had a full time coach.

It was the first time I had a coach and not a programmer. It was super special to deal with problems together. I wasn't facing them alone ”.

One month of training

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in April, Mathew Fraser and Tia Toomey were left without pits when the CrossFit Mayhem closed its doors due to closures across the state.

With the uncertainty of the 2020 Games, Fraser and his team decided to move their training seat to BedRock Lodge in Kentucky.

Fraser, Toomey and Orr were joined by Fraser's partner Sammy Moniz and country music artist Kip Moore at the lodge, a very popular spot with climbing enthusiasts.

“We were planning on going there for two nights, and ended up staying for about a month,” Fraser said. “It has been an incredible journey for all of us”.

Fraser managed to unplug from all the chaos that happened in the CrossFit world as he reared up hoping for a chance to finish the season.

During this time he also met people outside the sport, such as Moore and the lodge owners, whose philosophies of life developed differently from his.

This was invaluable to him, as he was able to put his level of success and his way of life outside of CrossFit into perspective.

“We spend so much time with the people who are inside this bubble called CrossFit. This consumes you. That's what everyone is talking about. It is the one thing that matters to everyone. It's the one thing everyone focuses on ”.

So I took the opportunity to ask Kip and the owners of the hut: "What are your values?", "How do you spend your time?" and you know? I learned a lot from talking to them! "

These conversations and his time away from his usual routine led Fraser to make some changes.

“Immediately after that trip, Sammy and I realized that we could no longer live in Cookeville, and that we would have to move,” Fraser added. “After that trip we bought a house in Vermont and started taking steps to live a more peaceful and happy life.

I made some very drastic changes after that trip because I had a different point of view on the value of life after what we spent in that month ", Fraser said.

And we wish him so heartily!
