Memorial Day: athlete does 2 Murphs in a row!

Murph

Rare events happen in America; things that really make us wonder "But are we serious?" IS we like to find these pearls! This time it was no different (and now we are no longer surprised): an athlete did two "Murph" WODs in a row!

"But really?!?!"

Yes.

How did this happen, you wonder ...

In the United States, Memorial Day is celebrated on the last Monday of May, this year on 26/05/2020. In that day, crossfitters from all over the country (and lately also from all over the world) come together to do the notorious and very difficult WOD Murph.

This workout was created in honor of Lt. Michael “Murph” Murphy, a Navy SEAL whose story is described in the book and in the Lone Survivor movie, which is particularly "exhausting and intense".

It consists in running 1,6 km then proceed with 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squat and again rush of 1,6 km, the whole wearing a vest da 8 kg.

CrossFit © has classified the Murph like Hero WOD in 2005, and since then it has been an honorable (and much feared!) workout.

This year Chris Holt, athlete and coach CrossFit ©, raised the bar: he decided to close for twice the Murph for to honor members of the United States Armed Forces in an event sponsored by the sports equipment manufacturer Ten Thousand.

Holt went even further with his challenge: he increased weight using one  14 kg vest and started running with a Assault Fitness Air Runner, making training even more challenging.

Many people did Murph's Memorial Day training for celebrate the holiday and the meaning behind it, but to do two in a row you need a motivation and a force much larger.

Holt explained "why" he decided to double Murph in an Instagram post:

“I'm doing it for myself, to push my physical and mental limits. It is then that we discover parts of ourselves that we did not know existed ", he wrote.

“I'm doing this for everyone who has been told they can't do anything. After my four lung surgeries and a near fatal car accident, I was told that I could never lift weights again and that I could only do yoga and Pilates "

Holt completed Murph's first round in 1 10 hours and minutes. He finished the second in 1 20 hours and minutes. It's two hours and 30 minutes of intense work - crazy stuff, especially for those who know how difficult it is to close it!

How to do it at home?

During this period of quarantine, many appeared WOD adapted to home based versions. Mainly those Hero / Girls.
