Other big names in the CrossFit® scene announce their participation in Wodapalooza 2023

We said a few days ago that the this year's Wodapalooza team competition would have been so crazy…! Too bad we can't be there, live.

Thanks to changes to its format, where the individual and elite division events do not overlap, athletes are able to compete in both divisions.

This is why so many athletes are forming teams! Let's see the latest news of the most awaited race of 2023 (after the Games!):

Rich Froning returns to team racing

Yep, that's right.

Rich Froning has decided to compete at TYR Wodapalooza 2023, in his usual category, namely, Team Elite Men alongside two well-known names: Sam Cournoyer and Tyler Christophel.

Some time ago we announced that he  he would no longer compete alongside team Mayhem, but apparently made an exception for the famous race in Miami.

The two athletes who will be part of his team are names you may know: Cournoyer was part of Team Mayhem Freedom who won this year's team competition. For next season, the athlete has announced that he will try to qualify as an individual, since he has returned to live in Canada.

Christophel, on the other hand, currently lives in Cookeville, Tennessee and trains at CrossFit® Mayhem. He has competed in the Games in the team division twice, with CrossFit® 417 in 2017 and 2018.

Last year he narrowly missed out on qualifying as an individual at the Games, finishing 7th in the semi-final of the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit® Challenge, followed by a 5th place in the Last Chance Qualifier.

This summer we've seen him compete alongside Baylee Rayl and Froning at ww4 died, Sardinian race where the Mayhem team took home the victory!

Sam Dance, Jorge Fernandez & Joshua Al-chamaa

We will also see a fairly well known American team! Let's talk about Team Invictus, who finished 3rd in this year's Games. Thanks to this victory, the team received an automatic invitation and was able to choose a third participant.

Filling this missing spot will be Sam Dancer, veteran Games athlete, who won the Master 35 division this year.

Dancer is still in the post-surgery recovery phase (he broke his distal biceps tendon 5 months ago), but despite the injury, he has announced that he will be back competing right on the floor in Miami.

The other two names that complete the squad are Joshua Al-chamaa and Jorge Fernandez, another prominent athlete we had the pleasure of seeing at WW4 last September.

McQuaid, Dahlstrom & Sigurdardottir

The updates don't end here! For the female side we will also see three very strong women at European level. Team GOWOD will consist of Emma McQuaid, Sola Sigurdardottir and Jacqueline Dahlstrom.

All three women are veterans and participated in the 2022 CrossFit® Games. McQuaid is from Ireland and was a four-time Games athlete, with her best result in the last two years, where she finished 12th overall.

This season McQuaid also participated in the Rogue Invitational and last month set three Irish national weightlifting records.

Dahlstrom is from Norway and has been to the Games three times. Her best finish was last year when she finished 15th.

Sigurdardottir hails from Iceland and made his first appearance at the Games as an individual last year, where it finished 34th. Previously, Lei Sigurdardottir competed as a team at the Games in 2016 and 2017. Last month, Lei Sigurdardottir competed in the Zelos Games live exhibition competition.

Brooke Wells, Amanda Barnhart & Kristi O'Connell

Last but not least, we will also see Brooke Wells, Amanda Barnhart and Kristi O'Connell! The team hasn't decided on a name yet, but they certainly won't let us down, knowing the power of these three superwomen.

Brooke, after recovering from her bad accident at the 2021 Games, this year at the Games she managed to bring home a 5th place overall, followed by Kristi O'Connell in 13th and Amanda Barnhart instead 14th; all placements within the top 15, not bad, isn't it?
