CrossFit® photography: Indja Photographer speaks

The fact of spending most of our day at work is no longer a novelty. At least eight hours must be dedicated to productivity and entrepreneurial results. And then there are those who transform his passion - or more than one- in work.

We had the opportunity to talk with Indja, an excellent professional and an example of determination. She has succeeded in uniting her passions, the photography and CrossFit®, creating its own business. Her shots are full of emotions, just as she is ... A whirlwind of ideas, desires, enthusiasm and creativity as well as being a crossfiter with the "cazzimma".

But you will tell us this, in this wonderful interview you gave us below:

Hi Jasmine, it's a pleasure to chat with you. So tell us a little about yourself, what is your box and your coach?

My pleasure! You make me gush with this interview!

So, my name is (to be exact) Jasmine Natalie Imbrioscia Wagner, I'm 26 years old and I have many (too many) interests, that's why I do a thousand things including training about 7h a week, for 3 years now, at the Paruzarro box “Crossfit lago maggiore"My coach Manuel Stranges immediately saw potential in me and after about 2 weeks I was training in his box he asked me if I wanted to compete. And I didn't expect anything else.

We know that you do a very special job, you photograph it at sporting events. How did you approach this activity?

I have been a photographer for 8 years (obviously it was a long journey, still in progress) and for 2 years I have been working as a functional training instructor in the gym. I must say that I managed to make my passions into a job.

Was the passion for CrossFit® born from this? That is from those shots full of emotions, energy and effort?

No. CrossFit® arrived first. Before getting to know this discipline I was photographing less concrete and more conceptual things. I was even smaller and was definitely trying to express something about myself. I used to photograph for need, but after discovering dedication, fatigue, physical effort, few other things turned out to be just as strong. My thirst and my energies were supported. So the focus has changed, now I document what I live and what I see. Nothing conceptual, all true. The blood, the sweat, the burning muscles, the breath that is missing ... now I just try to immortalize reality.

In fact, this is perceived in your shots. But what about you, do you follow the CS Competitor program? What does it include on a physical and food level?

I certainly follow him. But I'm a little bit particular… a little artist, a little free spirit and therefore a cabbage head! If I feel like having a beer the night before a race, I'll drink it.  I don't have the mentality of a real athlete. I'm not domesticated. I have good movement patterns, I'm just very competitive and strong enough. For these reasons, my coach schedules me very heavy workouts that he knows I can handle, but not without a little kick in the ass.

And can you take part in the races? Compete and work at the same time? How does it work?

I do everything. I didn't say I do well, but everything does. I throw myself into anything with determination and enthusiasm! For example, this weekend I participated in my first race strongman and I took home double first place. Both for my -64kg category and in the general ranking. I love competing, I always have (13 years of artistic gymnastics behind me), despite everything my coach goes crazy with me, he always has to find a way to encourage me, but he knows that in the competition I do my duty... I give everything, without fear. because I miss the athlete's head, but not the “FUCK”.

Here, speaking of competitions ... On the weekend of 13 and 14 July there was the Liguria BeeBad Box Battle 2019. Can you tell us how it went?

Here it is… A DISASTER.

Why? However, you have remained inside the top 10 woman ... What do you need to improve for the next ones?

We got very angry with ourselves. During a competition the head must dominate the body. And for us who are disadvantaged freaks it was a real undertaking to try to stay connected to planet earth. In the first WOD we always forgot to move the dumbbells… ALWAYS. Of 50 reps of hspu we thought that 30 would be enough and in the warm up area 65kg of clean we shot them in serenity, in the competition field an incredible effort… A Disaster indeed.

Instead, in which event did you finish with the best score?

The hand stand walk, both of us coming from gymnastics, gave us an advantage.

You and your partner Simona Pagliuca were the NC team. What does the name mean?

In reality, at the time of registration we were in a hurry because she too does a thousand things and we are two freaks and therefore very dangerous together [laughs]. We wanted a name that could remind us of the fact that we never live anything, they always have to explain the WODs and programming 4 times ... NC are the initials of We do not understand. But now that we have unraveled the mystery it is much less cool, we had fun doing the mysterious ones.

We know you do other activities, including yoga. In your opinion, does this improve your performance? What are the benefits?

During my first yoga class I realized that basically I had been practicing this discipline for years, as CrossFit® has taken a lot from yoga and made it just to improve mobility and for the final stretching, unfortunately without paying attention to breathing. . This for me was a real revelation. You should really see me, I'm always a thousand, I almost have a tachycardia from what I speak! I prefer sports that at the end of a session make me feel dead tired and exhausted, I always carry myself, always to the limit ... Then one day I sat down and listened to my breaths ... Slow and deep ... instantly I wanted to jumping up and squatting but then I started to really feel, I listened to my body, my mind ... It had become too easy for me now to overdo it, to take my body to the edge of effort, but the opposite thing no, this thing it was new, and it was much more difficult, so difficult that I immediately accepted the challenge.

Try to hold a painful or even just uncomfortable asana [yoga posture] for 10 yogic breaths… stay there for at least 4 minutes. Sounds like bullshit, but try it. We crossfitters are used to something else. Usually in 4 minutes we have already done 30 burpees, 20 c & j, 10 mu and 200 m RUN...In addition to further improving mobility, I find it a great benefit from the point of view of muscle lengthening, the contractures dissolve almost completely. I strongly recommend everyone to try yoga at least once a week!
