Sam Kwant announces that he is leaving CompTrain

Sam Kwant, the second fittest man on Earth of 2020, announced on his Instagram profile that he will be leaving CompTrain.

“I am infinitely grateful for everything this team has given me,” he wrote on Instagram.

"It's time to open the doors to a new chapter, but the things I've learned and experienced are priceless."

The 26-year-old is therelast athlete to leave CompTrain, a functional fitness program led by coach Ben Bergeron.

Just four months ago, the two-time Fittest Woman on Earth Katrin Davidsdottir announced that she would be leaving her longtime coach to return to Iceland.

Davidsdottir trained with Bergeron and CompTrain from 2014 until the end of the 2021 season.

A year before her, Brooke Wells announced that she would be leaving CompTrain after training with Bergeron for over four years.

Now she trains with five-time Fittest Woman on Earth Tia-Clair Toomey with her PRVN Fitness program.

"While Sam [Kwant] will go on as one of my former athletes, his competitiveness, dedication and friendship will not," Bergeron wrote of Kwant's departure from CompTrain on Instagram.

"It has been an honor to be a part of his journey and I can't wait to see Sam continue to grow."

Who is Sam Kwant?

Sam Kwant is a athlete who has participated four times in the CrossFit® Games with a personal best placement of 2nd overall.

He first participated in the CrossFit® Games in 2016, qualifying as the youngest individual athlete of the Games that year, at just 20 years old.

While a chronic illness flare-up prevented him from qualifying for the Games in 2021, his former manager said there was "much more to do".

Kwant's announcement almost comes five months after coach Harry Palley announced he would be retiring from work at CompTrain and CFNE.

However, CompTrain still trains excellent CrossFit® Games athletes like Amanda Barnhart, Chandler Smith and Cole Sager, and recently added Sydney Michalyshen to her team.
