Sara Sigmundsdottir back in the race at TYR Wodapalooza 2023

After a series of injuries that have hampered Sara Sigmundsdottir in recent seasons, the Icelandic CrossFit® Games veteran and fan favorite will travel to Miami this January 2023 to compete at the TYR Wodapalooza Fitness Festival 2023.

For Sigmundsdottir it will be the first time in an in-person competition since finishing sixth at the 2022 CrossFit® Lowlands Throwdown.

Sigmundsdottir he will compete in the Individual Elite division and it is the fourth time he has shown up at Bayfront Park; received an invitation to compete this year for his third-place finish at the 2016 CrossFit® Games.

In fact, Wodapalooza automatically invites all the winners of the CrossFit® Games podium from 2016 to 2022.

The story of Sara Sigmundsdottir at Wodapalooza

Sara Sigmundsdottir has achieved good results in previous editions of Wodapalooza; in 2019 she finished third overall, result followed by a second place overall in 2020.

Then, after the return of the Wodapalooza in 2022, Sigmundsdottir withdrew from the competition after three workouts. She later said she was very scared during the third event of the competition, after a accident to the knee.

Thankfully this injury didn't rule her out of the 2022 CrossFit® Games season, even though she failed to qualify for last season's Games.

A series of unfortunate injuries

Sigmundsdottir's final years were, sadly, plagued by a series of injuries. In 2020, Sigmundsdottir participated in the online portion of the 2020 CrossFit® Games, where she placed 21st.

Then he stated that a shin injury sustained before the 2020 Rogue Invitational contributed to his performance falling short of expectations.

In 2021, however, Sara Sigmundsdottir was forced to withdraw from participation in the 2021 CrossFit® Open because she ruptured her cruciate ligament front while doing split jerks.

Finally, last year, a knee injury at Wodapalooza forced her to retire.

What do we know about his return?

Sara Sigmundsdottir seems to have finally recovered from all the injuries of recent years and in January we will see her return to make another attempt at the CrossFit® Games.

With the changes made for the next season of the CrossFit® Games, Sigmundsdottir will have to prove that she is back to what she used to be, before the series of injuries, in order to be able to compete again with the strong and competitive women's sector from Europe.

We still don't know how many and which athletes will qualify for the Games in the European section, but we know that there will be a lot of trouble in this section given that the competition and the level will be very high.
