Sean Sweeney retires from the CrossFit® Games as an elite individual athlete

Sean Sweeney, the CrossFit® Cowboy Athlete, announced that yes will take a break from the CrossFit® Games. We won't see him in the biggest CrossFit® challenge in the world until he can compete again as a master athlete, that is, in 5 years.

The announcement of the break was one surprise to the CrossFit® community, as Sean Sweeney is only 30 years old and just competed at Madison.

He will reportedly devote his time to grow his fitness program alongside his wife Emily Sweeney.

Sean Sweeney made sure of highlight the word "PAUSE", as he will continue to compete and eventually return to compete as Fittest on Earth, but as a master athlete.

"I'm far from having finished competing", he wrote. "I will still be attending major CrossFit® events in the next few years, but I won't spend the whole year chasing the Games."

Believe me, I will participate in the Masters category, but this will be in 5 years, I am only 30 now. I intend to compete in the masters division until they put me in the grave.

Sean Sweeney Post's post about his retirement from CrossFit® Games

Here is the translation of what the athlete posted:

“My time to compete at the @ CrossFit®games has come to a BREAK.

I am so incredibly grateful that I have had the experiences on the floor of the largest fitness stage in the world over the years. There is no feeling like this.

I am extremely excited to go full steam ahead with the @cowboywayathlete program. @Emmbutz and I are shifting the focus and putting most of our time into growing our program. We will be on the road, traveling to gyms, doing workout days and helping people find their love of fitness.

That said, I am AWAY FROM RETIREMENT. I will continue to participate in major CrossFit® events over the next few years, but I have no plans to spend all year chasing the Games.

MASTERS - Trust me, I will participate in the Masters category, but this will be in 5 years and I am only 30 now. I intend to compete in the masters division until they put me in the grave.

One of the main goals of @cowboywayathlete is to give something back to our community. I am 100% committed to growing our funds so that we can financially support hundreds or thousands of people who are not games athletes, but ordinary people who love training and may need a little help along the way. .

20% of all our income will go to an athlete fund that is there for YOU, in the form of equipment - race / travel / seminar expenses etc….

When I tried my first CrossFit® workout - I had no idea what an incredible journey I was going to take. I met the love of my life, I met so many extraordinary people and I found my true calling: to positively influence others through fitness.

I'm so grateful for the life I have and can't wait to be able to go out and share this passion with the world as a coach ”!

And we wish him the best of luck!
