Thelma Christoforou from Cyprus to the CrossFit Games 2019: the interview

We are in love with Thelma Christoforou and it is not difficult to understand the reasons.

Very well prepared athlete he shares his life every day and his workouts on Instagram. We have decided to interview her for many reasons, but the most important is the fundraising campaign to allow you to reach and live in the United States during CrossFit Games. Us support!

Here is her story and all the information on the female athlete who will represent Cyprus in August. We thank her doubly because she is in the midst of athletic training and has found time for us. Enjoy the reading.

The CrossFit Games are coming: how are you feeling?
Well. I'm honored and can't wait for them to start, I feel so excited about the idea! I have worked hard and I hope that the Cypriot community can be proud of me.

We are very interested in your fundraising. Tell us when the economic aspect is important in this sporting adventure, seeking the help of people and not just commercial sponsors.
Yes, I created it not only to help me, but also with the aim of involving my fans in something collective. In fact, it also has a small competition inside: among all the supporters, a person will be drawn who will win a voucher of 300 euros to spend at the shops Stathatos Athletics. It is very nice to see the support of the people that will make it less burdensome for me to take this trip and stay there. I was particularly struck by seeing the contributions of people I absolutely don't know. I've been doing CrossFit for a long time but I didn't think I had fans so close.

You have 32 years and we see that you are the best Cypriot athlete since 2016. How do you keep the level so high for so many years?
It's funny because I started doing CrossFit about five years ago. I come from volleyball and I already had some athletic training and good physical condition. I did what many people do: small local competitions made me realize that I wanted to compete, not just to train. In the meantime, I didn't stop playing volleyball, so I followed two competitive sports at the same time. After 4 years I had to choose and I decided to dedicate myself to CrossFit. How do you keep the level high? Dedicate yourself so much, make many sacrifices and have fun in the meantime.

Can you tell us about your weekly routine and if there are differences between the preparation for the CrossFit Games and the off-season training sessions?
Right! I train 3 yes and one days no. I divide my workouts by doing one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I usually do conditioning in the morning, then some weight lifting, and lastly the workouts of the day. For the CrossFit Games my coach has increased the sessions outside the box a lot, so I do a lot of running, swimming and honestly I feel more dedicated and disciplined than ever: I do what I have to do without ever failing, I wake up early, I eat well, I I prepare to train.

What are the reasons for so much outdoor training?
Well, it serves far more than you think. The weather at CrossFit Games they are part of the difficulty and testing their skills in an unprotected environment is very important. There are a lot of things that sometimes happen in workouts that you can't do in the garage or in a gym, so you have to be ready for everything.

It is a much discussed topic. Many women are afraid of doing CrossFit because they are afraid of becoming "too muscular". You seem like a great balance between a sculpted physique and a very feminine body that breaks down the stereotypes about CrossFit a bit. Can you say something about it?
The truth is, there is no risk of becoming particularly muscular, indeed, unless you open up a competitive career. There it is normal to become more muscular because those muscles, beyond their size, are used to compete and remain competitive. But do you know what I think? That there's nothing wrong with being "big". Women are strong by nature and force it's beauty. Therefore, we should not be afraid, because having a physique of strong people is the expression of the strength we have within us. So it's okay, girls.

What are your goals now that you will be in Games and what will you do next?
From the United States I hope to return with excellent results and overcome all my limitations in every workout. I still don't know how the elimination system works, but I will do everything necessary to compete while I am inside. My hard work, you will see, I am sure.

And then what?
Then I'll go on vacation and get ready for the next Open, right?
