What happened to Brooke Wells' elbow?

It will be difficult to forget the live moment in which Brooke Well seriously injured her elbow, In 'event of the snatch at the Games.

The impression we all got is that something had broken, given the unnatural movement of the arm when he lifted the bar… it was really bad!

We were all waiting for news, but only the next day Brooke announced on social media that she has suffered a dislocation. For the uninitiated, dislocation is the displacement of bones relative to their normal point of articulation.

In addition, the athlete specified that she was promptly assisted by the medical team of the Games and that she was subsequently subjected to some tests to find out what had happened to her.

A few days ago, however, Brooke published the result of the MRI and unfortunately the diagnosis was not entirely encouraging: total injury to the muscle and ligaments inside the elbow (ulnar collateral ligament), which caused the dislocation.

That is, a high-grade injury of the lateral collateral ligament and flexor tendon that has disconnected from its bony attachment. There were no fractures or damage to the bone surface.

The statements of Brooke Wells

In his post we read:

“It's been a whirlwind since mine accident on the elbow last week at the CrossFit Games. Thank you so much to everyone who continues to check in on me, offer advice, or wish me luck.

Right after the Games, they gave me an MRI at the Madison hospital. The images have been sent to experts who work with other professional athletes and who understand how much CrossFit at a competitive level demands from my body.

Although the results weren't what I was hoping to hear, the consistency between their feedback gives me confidence.

There is a complete injury to the muscle and ligaments on the inner side of the elbow (UCL), which caused the dislocation. A high-grade injury of the lateral collateral and the flexor tendon was torn from the bone. There were no fractures or superficial damage to the joint.

Through a thorough process, my team and I have identified the doctor who will complete reconstructive surgery (Tommy-John) to stabilize my elbow, along with tendon flexor surgery. All doctors who have reviewed my injury expect a FULL RECOVERY.

There was a lot to process, a lot of emotion. But most of all, I'm anxious and excited to finally be able to fix my elbow, so I can get back to doing what I love. I remain positive and thank you so much for your support !! I will continue to provide you with the available updates "

The intervention

Immediately after breaking the news of the dislocation, Brooke Wells entered the operating room. But he reassures us all with a post saying:

“I woke up from the surgery with a lot of pain, but I feel better and I am very happy to have finished with this first phase. My doctor said everything went perfectly, which is a huge relief! "

We wish you a good recovery and hope to see you soon on floor!
