Trapeze exits: let's discover the new CrossFit® exercise together

The Trapeze Exits was first tested and introduced in a CrossFit® competition in Russia: the Siberian Showdown, the only authorized CrossFit® event in Russia, which was held from 26 to 28 November 2021; this exercise was held in event 6, called “DN'T-STP”.

Have you ever heard of it?

What is Trapeze Exits?

This exercise is similar to muscle-up bar; however, athletes are required to perform the muscle-up not on the classic bar, but on one movable bar simulating a trapezoid.

If you are wondering, the trapeze is just that typical exercise of the equilibrists in the circus (a bit creepy, don't you think?).

The trapeze, for gymnasts and circus performers, is a very short horizontal bar, suspended in the air and held by two parallel strings; it is used in artistic gymnastics and in the circus by athletes and agonist acrobats for gymnastic exercises and incredible acrobatics.

How did the event where the Trapeze Exits appeared?

The CrossFit® exercise performed in event 6 at the Siberian Showdown was composed as follows:

CAP TIME: 14 minutes

On the official Instagram post of the Siberian Showdown, this exercise was renamed “Exclusive muscle-ups”, but we prefer “Trapeze Exits”!

Where did the idea for Trapeze Exits come from?

Alex Snurnitsin is one of the organizers of the Siberian Showdown and defended the introduction of the Trapeze Exits in one of his latest Instagram posts, stating:

“My priority as a CrossFit event organizer is to always keep athletes' safety first; they train to be the best and to be ready for difficult exercises, which require great physical effort. How do you really check their preparation and motivation if no news is introduced? It is right to choose difficult paths: to seek the boundary between safety and creativity, between the classic and the innovative, between the known and the unknown ".

How did the athletes fare in the Trapeze Exits?

Only 6 out of 29 athletes managed to complete the exercise before time ran out; at the end of the event there was still an athlete who was trying to finish the Trapeze Exits.

The main difficulty in this exercise is that the bar is not as stable as in normal muscle-ups; being suspended in the air and held only by ropes, the bar moves, requiring an enormous amount of core effort and concentration from the athletes to finish the movement.

In this video of the event we can see the execution of the exercise; unbelievable, right?

What do you think of this novelty in the CrossFit® world directly from Russia? Do you agree with the words of Alex Snurnistin, according to which it is right to introduce new and increasingly difficult challenges for athletes so that they can put themselves to the test? Let us know!
