Try these 4 tips to leave the ego out of the CrossFit®

If there is something we of CrossMag we want, is to offer all the information available to make you become a great athlete. To improve your benchmarks, it is not only necessary to train every day, but also to get to know each other a little better to overcome all the barriers that sport imposes.

LET'S START FROM THE BASICS: WHAT IS EGO?

He explains it to us Sigmund Freud, which, in other words, defines the ego as the knowledge we have ABOUT ourselves e OF ourselves. It is always dictated by motivation, which guides our behavior.

Ego, as a term, comes from the Latin and means "I". It is a word that has been adopted by philosophy for use in psychology and is used to describe the consciousness of the individual, which is understood as the ability to perceive reality.

EGO AND CROSSFIT®

One of the first things you notice when entering a box is that there are no mirrors. You can't watch each other while you are training.

One of my first doubts when I started CrossFit® was: how do i know if i'm doing well? The truth is that without the mirror we learn much more about the competence and awareness of our body.

Basically, the ego is in the mind and in'attitude of each of us. The ego is not just about proudly displaying a toned abdomen, telling a very high PR or marking an incredible time at the end of the WOD; the ego can also emerge in the simple fact of feeling superior to others because CrossFit® is used.

Moreover, it is also the part of our mind that causes us the most suffering. This is because he wants to control every single thing of our life and this is not possible.

You know that fixed thought that won't let you take a rest day despite your body needing it? - and we're not talking about professional athletes here - but about each of us, when that stupid fear assails us that our teammates will get stronger.

The peculiarity of the ego is not to surpass oneself, but to believe that one's success is more deserving than that of others. And unfortunately, this happens very often.

HOW TO BE MORE QUIET IN THE BOX AND IN LIFE?

Here are some suggestions to be more serene both in the box and in life:

1 - Separate your results from your identity

You are not what you realize as you are not what you have. If you do something that has an incredible result and you feel special, when you do something bad, what will you feel? Learn to be who you are, more than what you do.

2 - Stay in the present

Thinking too much about the past and the future makes it more difficult. Think about what you should have done or what you should do all the time, create a vicious circle in your brain that doesn't make you evolve. Breathe, meditates, try to stay in present as much as possible.

3 - Remember that you are human

Yes onesto on your limits and your priorities. Observe and work on them precisely. Celebrate your victories and learn from your mistakes.

4 - Be grateful

Say thank you always for all the efforts you have made and for the results you have achieved. Being grateful is one of the best ways to remember that it is worth putting intention and love into our goals in and out of sport.

Do we try to implement these suggestions? Surely you will notice significant improvements!
