Let's get to know The Pride Wod: the most inclusive race in Monza Brianza

A June is LGBTQIA+ Pride Month all over the world. Rainbow initiatives and parades in the name of and for the defense of the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community invade the streets of the cities!

This year the Corona Ferrea CrossFit® box joins these events with a one-of-a-kind competition: The Pride Wod and Party, on June 4, 2023.

It is a atypical team competition: of course there will be race packs, judges and a general classification, but it won't be structured like a usual race!

It will be a "woddone” (as the organizers like to say), divided into 6 "mini" wods, without downtime. There are no qualifications, there is no warm up area: ready and go, we enter!

But the detail that we like most is that there are no restrictions! All you need is a close-knit team of 4, no matter gender, age, sexual orientation or gender identity.

All you need is the desire to have fun and get a healthy sweat!

No particular skills are required, nor is it essential force because in this race the strongest team will not win, but the most united one, which will be able to coordinate and listen to each other.

At the end of the event an evening party will follow including dinner, music and cake, to celebrate 6 years of the box beyond LGBTQIA+ pride!

We have interviewed for you lorganizer Sara, who told us about some of the new things she's preparing for this first edition!

The words of Sara, the organizer

Hi Sara! Tell us who you are, what you do, what your background is

HI! I'm Sara and I started Crossfit because they spoke badly about it, saying it's a sport where everyone rocks... out of curiosity I tried it and after the first lesson I decided I wanted to do it every day, and so it was... a thousand courses, I worked in several boxes and after a few years I opened mine.

We know that your box is very attentive to social issues. What have you done recently?

With the guys in the box we are open to anything social, from the collection of 8 pallets of food, clothes and medicines sent to a Ukrainian box, to WODs for fundraising for the Red Cross, fundraising for Pane Quotidiano Onlus, to all year's offer of free Crossfit for the disabled …which ended with a third place at the Games last year!

Why did you decide to create this competition?

June is Pride month and every year we did a simple wod. Every time I read/hear some statements on topics such as the homosexual family, the non-recognition of some rights, etc. my skin crawls. They are… or rather we are, absolutely against all forms of homophobia and inequality.

Why team of 4 without restrictions?

Unrestricted team because I find it binding. I think the motivation of the team you train with is more important than the strength of the individual athlete. So I wanted to create a competition where it was possible to choose who to team up with without any constraints.

Can you tell us if there will be any news? For example a particular skill or a different tool?

A nice synchronized rowing with slide for example?? 🙂

What are the plans for this competition? Would you like to make it a regular appointment?

Yes, I would like it to become a fixed appointment. As I told you, we did a "pride wod" every year... but I would also like to open it to outsiders.

I think that entering a competition that has “Pride” in the name is still taboo, almost as if it could be a cause for shame or derision, or could question one's sexuality or “machismo”.

But not discriminating also passes through deeds and not just words. The message we want to give is very clear: we are not interested in sexual orientation or gender identity.

This won't make you a better person, athlete, sister, brother, parent, child@, friend@, but we know for a fact that discrimination, violence and bullying make the world a worse place for everyone.

We believe that there is nothing to hide or be ashamed of, but above all we should never fear anyone's judgement. We strongly believe that a better society starts here.
