Weighlifting Shoes: Is It Worth It?

Weightlifting Shoes

Every cast iron practitioner has his own curse.

There are those who could be a virtuoso of the barbell squat, if they didn't always find the type that does squat rack curl. There are those who might have volumes from Mister Olympia, but they always run out of them at the supplement store protein Chocolate Mega Mass Gainer – the only ones he likes.

And then there is me. That I have to talk about shoes weightlifting… But I've been training barefoot for ten years.

Because the "right shoe" is needed

Jokes aside. Up here CrossMag, we have talked about shoes several times. And in the end, there is no escape: the right shoe for the activity you do

Then for heaven's sake, beyond the above points, the very complicated world comes into play (at least for the salesman of the store from which you use) preferences.

Larry Wheels training in slippers. Ronnie Coleman (and many other bodybuilders) in amphibians. The guy you find at 3000 meters in Chinese gym shoes. The one who comes to the gym with the Five Fingers.

And those like me, who do anything barefoot because "the contact with the ground" (and various other reasons).

Why consider a weightlifting shoe

Weightlifting shoes are a world apart, not so much for the strain on the foot, but for how energy has to be transferred - and not “lost - during lifts.

The shoe must therefore insist on three elements: sole, heel, strap.

The rigid sole

If you are used to running shoes, here it is: forget everything. There sole of the weightlifting shoe it must be rigid, so as not to have points - the classic bearings - that “absorb” the energy.

Conversely, all the energy you can generate must be able to be transmitted along the kinetic chain.

Then: rigid sole.

High heel

You know that athletes who have ankles and also "tied", significantly improve performance just by changing shoes?

Il raised heel of weightlifting shoes facilitates the athlete to maintain an upright posture. By the same principle as before: energy is not lost by crossing the "weak links" of the kinetic chain.

Of course, that doesn't mean you have to stop training the core.

strap

That's right: like children.

Again as a matter of solidity of the entire body-system, shoes must fit in place. Velcro straps (or the single strap that wraps around the lacing) keeps the shoe where it belongs.

Eventually, you can think of get yourself a 1/2 number smaller model (for a moment you will understand how much novice climbers suffer).

Then?

So if you plan a solid weightlifting diet - maybe you've signed up for an in-depth course, or you want to do six months of just oly - get some weightlifting shoes that are comfortable for you, and that fit perfectly.
