What Fraser and Medeiros said to each other during the Ranch Loop event

Everyone talked about this event; the Ranch Loop was the second longest WOD in history of the Games! We marveled when Fraser made it to the finish line and Dave Castro warned him it wasn't over yet.

Well, what about. There final of the Games it made us smile: there was a middle finger, some laughter and then going back ...

"At that point, running was no longer an option." So Mathew Fraser, five-time CrossFit Games champion, described the second round of Event 5.

What has happened

The athletes have traveled 6 miles, with an average slope between 13 - 14 degrees inside the Castro Ranch. The route was really difficult, with steep uphill sections under the Aromas sun.

Fraser won, completing the test in just under an hour. Noah Ohlsen said it was the most difficult event for him.

Fraser, with Justin Medeiros behind him, crossed what he thought was the finish line in first place. It was then that Dave Castro told him to turn around and go back - the finish line was three miles away - and viewers were able to admire the now famous image of Fraser tapping Castro.

The words of Mat Fraser

"I thought it was a joke"Fraser said. “I was the first to arrive, and he [Castro] said it so casually. As soon as I crossed the finish line, he told me:

"Okay, now go back."

I stood still for a second, he looked at me and said: 'You'll start wasting time if you don't go!

I said to him, 'Oh, are you serious? So I got back into the game and left ”.

A detail ...

When Castro tried the Ranch Loop, none of the first runners on lap one managed to win the event. Fraser did it!

The second round

Medeiros, who took second place, and Fraser then ran most of the second lap together.

"I mean, once we found out that we were going to be next to each other for the next 30 minutes or so, we started chatting," Fraser said.

Like: "Hey, do you have tired legs?" “Yes, mine too. Good".

Medeiros instead said: “That surprise second lap was definitely a mental and physical fatigue, and being able to be with him [Fraser] for much of that second lap was really easy mentally, because I was like,“ If he's strong in the running at this pace, then I too am doing well at this pace ”.

Phrase:

“I think we were probably two thirds of the way when Justin told me:

"Hey, man, if we get to the finish line and we're still next to each other, I won't be chatting anymore."

I replied: “We will do a sprint”.

Medeiros: “I was like: okay, top… it's time to run”.
