Wodapalooza Miami 2020: how it went

This weekend of 20-23 February 2020 it was the stage of a unique event: the Wodapalooza. At Bayfront Park, Miami, the best crossfitters in the world came together to compete with one another sancional event signed CrossFit®.

In the struggle for the notorious invitations for others GAMES, there were 4 days of fire for all registered athletes. With a prize of $ 50,000 for the winners, nobody wanted to miss the opportunity to participate in the most important and exciting Sanctional race.

Tia Toomey, Sara Sigmundsdottir, Noah Olsen e Patrick Vellner are just some names of the famous who have marked presence.

Let's see some highlights of Wodapalooza 2020 together:

CATEGORY MAN

For the first time since Sanctional started there has been a draw at the top of the ranking: with identical 714 points Patrick Vellner and Cole Sager fought tooth and nail for first place.

Sager came in on the last day with what appeared to be a 64-point lead over Vellner, missing only two events from the end. Unfortunately for Sager, event 8 called "Down Up" it counted with 152kg deadlifts and bar-facing-burpees in a 12-9-6-9-12 pattern.

Vellner, who recorded a PR of 270kg when he won the "CrossFit® Total" at the CrossFit® Games 2018, he tore everyone up, finishing 30 seconds ahead of runner-up Noah Olsen with a final time of 4:14.

Sager, however, made a lot of effort, finishing 19th with a time of 5:50. The final event called "Celebrate life" it was decisive. A chipper WOD comprised of 50 wallballs, 40 calories SkiErg, 30 dumbbell snatches, 20 box jump overs e 15 bar muscle ups.

The two athletes fought rep by rep while the crowd cheered them: a breathtaking final where Vellner emerged victorious.

1st place: Patrick Vellner - 714 points (winning in tiebreaker)

2nd place: Cole Sager - 714 points

3rd place: Noah Ohlsen - 666 points

Games Invitation Winner: Saxon Panchik (4th place)

CATEGORY WOMAN

The women's category had many exciting moments as it turned towards the end of the competition.

Sara Sigmundsdottir against Tia Toomey: the two hottest athletes of the moment were ready to fight for the title.

On Saturday, after reaching the top of the ranking, Toomey scored a slight 16-point lead over Sigmundsdottir.

In the event "Down-Up", the Games 2019 champion took the situation in hand, ending in an incredible one 3 time: 13 gaining even more advantage over the Swedish rival.

Meanwhile, the battle for the Games invitation was between Emily Rolfe and Colleen Fotsch. Here, too, the spirits lit up and there were tears and sweat.

Rep by rep, they challenged each other until the end and crossed the finish line with a few seconds of difference, but only one was the winner: Emily Rolfe.

We finish this Wodapalooza with three leading athletes of the Games:

1st place: Tia-Clair Toomey - 808 points

2nd place: Sara Sigmundsdottir - 770 points

3rd place: Kari Pearce - 724 points

TEAM CATEGORY

In his second participation in a Sanctional events (he won the Strength in Depth to January 2020), the team CrossFit Mayhem Freedom he got well two straight wins. But unlike their dominant performance at the 2019 Games, this time the team was put under pressure by the GOWOD team.

In the final “Celebrate Life” event, Team GOWOD managed to win the heat, finishing 10 seconds before Team Mayhem. Teal Wit finished third. Although GOWOD won the event, the American team prevailed, closing the standings with colon more from rivals.
