WOD meaning: all the secrets to know!

We know… your first CrossFit® lesson will be challenging not only for the technical movements performed, but also for the numerous terms and words of the English language that will be used for exercises and types of training.

We will help you! The first step is: don't panic!

It's just a matter of time to get used to all those words that sound like another language, la CrossFitters language.

WHAT IS THE WOD?

One of the most pronounced terms within the CrossFit® boxes is undoubtedly “WOD”.

You will see your mates ask "What is today's WOD" or snort like "WOD is heavy" o "WOD is all cardio"....

Well, to understand, the WOD is the acronym of the term workout of the day which, translating, means "training of the day".

So when you see someone talking about WOD, you know it refers to the workout of the day.

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CROSSFIT® AND THE TRADITIONAL GYM

For the uninitiated, one of the main differences between CrossFit® and gym training is that in the former, each day the exercise schedule is different.

This means that the training of the day will never be repeated again (except in some cases, where there are training sessions in honor of some "heroes", the famous Hero Wod).

While in the gym we do sets of 8, 10, 12 or 15 reps, in CrossFit® there is no rule for the number of reps. You'll find WODs with as many as 300 or more reps.

GOALS OF CROSSFIT®

The main goal is to develop breathing resistance e cardiovascular, acquiring at the same time muscular resistance, flexibility, force, power, balance and speed. We talked about 10 capabilities that a crossfitter develops!

Basically, it is a complete sport that, if performed with conscience and with the accompaniment of an excellent professional, can transform your habits and your tone in all senses.

HOW A CROSSFIT® LESSON WORKS

First of all, it must be said that CrossFit® is suitable for everyone.

When we say “everyone”, we really mean anyone: children, thin, fat people, the elderly, men, women, sedentary, pregnant women, etc.

This is because all the exercises (technical and otherwise) can be adapted so that any person can perform it.

Training always starts with a heating it's one stretching to prepare the body for activity.

Then we move on to the phase of technique. Several CrossFit® exercises require a technique, which must be learned and trained on a day-to-day basis, so that athletes perform the movement correctly and do not get hurt during practice.

After that, it's time for the WOD, which is a high intensity and variable duration workout. There are WOD's 3 or 5 minutes and even those that last longer than 45 minutes.

CrossFit® requires a lot of strategy, head and stamina to learn the right pace and get the best results.

IN CROSSFIT® YOU ARE AGAINST YOURSELF

Another great thing about CrossFit® is that, in theory, there is no competition with other peers. Sure, some competition is always there, but the general idea is to improve own performance.

It's you against yourself! It is you who will give your all to evolve with each workout and you will see that the community will support you, always.
