We will certainly have found an excellent offer on protein powder and decide to stock it up. This is to find himself, after a while, with a bitter surprise: one or more packages that have expired because we were unable to consume them in time. And in that moment - on time - the fateful doubt takes over. Can we hire her anyway, or are they going to be trashed? Will they still be nutritious or will they irretrievably lose their nutritional properties? Finally, will consuming them hurt or not?
There is no definite answer to these questions, also because it is better to evaluate case by case through specific checks. In general there shouldn't be any particular problems. This is because, thanks to the dry and dry consistency of the protein in powder, the risk of contamination by bacteria and mold is low.
To make it even safer, we at CrossMag recommend making these simple checks:
Index
1) Carefully check the expiration date
Supplement manufacturers usually tend to report an indicative end of product validity date. However, this does not correspond to the actual expiry date of the product in question. Protein powders, not being fresh or easily perishable nutrients, can in fact also be preserved for several months beyond the stated expiration date (up to 6-8 months).
2) Make a sensory evaluation
First look at the protein powder to check for the presence of any color changes and / or signs of moisture. If the smell is not pungent try tasting a small amount diluted in water. If you find a sour taste, different from what you were used to, the product is probably compromised and therefore consumption is not recommended.
3) Check the storage location
If you have stored proteins in a cool and dry place (away from light, heat and humidity) and the other tests carried out gave a positive result, then very probably the product is perfectly intact on an organoleptic level and can be taken safely after the date indicated on the package.
