Psoriasis can give many reasons for giving up sports; visible plaques and scales all over the skin can create extreme discomfort and discomfort and this already seems a valid reason for avoiding sport.
There are, however, many other reasons not to give up exercise; weight control is at the top of the list, in fact it can help reduce flare-ups and improve the effects of psoriasis treatment.
What is psoriasis?
La psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition, which causes the rapid accumulation of dead skin in different parts of the body; inflammation and redness around the skin scales are very common.
The typical psoriasis scales are white / silver and develop into thick red spots; psoriasis is the result of an accelerated skin production process (in people without this pathology the life cycle of skin cells lasts a month, while in people with psoriasis it lasts a few days).
Gym: yes or no?
When you have a psoriasis flare-up, the gym is a place that is usually avoided; the advice we would like to give is to try to follow courses in a group and let the coach know about your condition, confirming that they are not contagious.
The sensitivity of other people may surprise you! If the gym is not part of the options, there are other ways to train: take a walk or a jog, ride a bicycle, jump rope, create a small home gym and train at home.
Keeping active helps you feel better and gives you energy and energy force to better face the days.
Tips: what to do and what not to do
Do not:
- Excessive sweating: Psoriasis symptoms can worsen considerably with excessive sweating
- Sharing Towels: Do not share towels, towels, and mats with anyone during your workout as this can cause fungal infections
- Stress: Excessive stress could trigger unpleasant chain reactions.
It can be done:
- Aerobics in water: Warm water helps remove dead skin
- Sunscreen: essential to protect yourself from sunburn if you train outdoors
- Breathable clothing: Always wear non-tight, breathable clothing, such as viscose and cotton, so as not to irritate the skin.
Find a training partner
Spending time with friends is always enjoyable, but finding a training partner is even better.
Exercising with a friend is one way to stay active, to avoid skipping the daily walk and to keep motivation high.
Stay hydrated
Drinking water during exercise is essential for everyone, but for psoriasis sufferers it is even more so; psoriatic skin, dry and itchy, needs a lot hydration.
You need to drink even more water than normal to compensate for lost sweat during training, so it's always a good idea to keep a cool water bottle or water bottle with you.
Take cold showers
La cold shower after a workout is a lifesaver (certainly not the best in winter, but it's worth suffering a little bit).
Sweat expelled during exercise can make symptoms worse, but a cold shower will not only wash away sweat and dead skin, it will help cool you down and reduce itching.
