Highlights women
For the female category, we have seen many twists and turns in the standings. After two days of competition, where Emily Rolfe was pretty much in first place for the entire run, in event 5 ha subito un accident al polpaccio durante i DU with the rope.
This injury cost her the podium, leaving room for two other women who fought with all their might for the top step: Paige Powers and Dani Speegle.
Thanks to her consistency, the 19-year-old Powers took the victory in part A of the final wod, finishing just under 30 seconds ahead of Speegle, with a time of 5:31.09.
In this year's competition, we have witnessed the rise of many female athletes, including Emma Carry, who after an injury that forced her to withdraw last year, this time she's back stronger than ever.
Ours too Elisa Fuliano did not disappoint: he had a crazy race, finishing most of the WODs in the top 5. He lost some positions in the swim workout and in the ones where he uses his back a lot, but in general he did what he had to do! Closes this season in 7th place overall, really proving to everyone that he deserves to compete with these big names in our panorama!
Highlights men
Ricky Garard was 30 points ahead of Roman Khrennikov in the penultimate training session of the competition. The two have beenhead-to-head for most of the weekend, with Garard placing in the top five in all of the final's workouts.
During the first two rounds of “Miami Meat Market,” it was a three-way contest: Khrennikov, Garard, and US Army Warrior Fitness Team member Jack Rozema began to drift away from the pack.
The last round saw Khrennikov and Garard in the lead, who challenged each other with repetitions on the bench with dumbbells. Khrennikov finished the bench press first and then immediately ran to the eco bike, taking home the victory.
Garard, Khrennikov and Vellner took the podium after part A, so Part B “Dirty Isabel” was one pure battle for first place overall.
It was enough for Garard to finish in front of Khrennikov to secure his first, while Vellner had the possibility of finishing second on the podium, if everything went in his favour.
Garard placed fifth in “Dirty Isabel,” making him the only athlete in the field to place in the top five in every race. This performance was enough for him to take first place overall at Wodapalooza 2023.
Vellner finished third, but dropped 11 points to second overall, taken by Khrennikov. Dallin Pepper won the event with a time of 3:07.21, followed by Henrik Haapalainen with a time of 3:20.33.
It was truly a breath-taking ordeal!
