A few days ago, CrossFit ® officially new format for the 2024 CrossFit ® Games season announced! And the changes are, to say the least, significant.
After the news that Age Group and Adaptive will have a separate event, we now have a more complete overview of how the next Games will unfold.
In addition to changes in the Age Group categories and Adaptive divisions, the biggest change to the 2024 season involves the expansion of the quarterfinals. Last year, only 10% of the Open's top athletes qualified for the quarterfinals; in 2024, this number will increase to 25%!

Quarterfinals 2024
In 2024, even more athletes will qualify for the quarterfinals. The top 25% of Individuals and Teams from each continent (Africa, Asia, Europe, North-East America, North-West America, Oceania and South America) will be invited to participate in the second phase.
Last year, only the top 10% reached the quarterfinals.
As for the calendar, Individuals will have more time, while teams will have less time between the Open and the quarterfinals.
In 2023, only 10 days separated the end of the Open from the start of the individual quarterfinals. In 2024, the individual quarterfinals will begin on April 17, just over three weeks later.
Teams, on the other hand, will have less time than in 2023. The team quarterfinals will begin on April 3, just 16 days after the Open.
The quarter finals of age groups will be held from April 17 to 22, at the same time as the individual quarterfinals.
Summary:
- Seven regions: Africa, Asia, Europe, North America East, North America West, Oceania, South America.
- Individual and Age Group athletes who have qualified for the quarter-finals will have the same program and will only have to train once to be represented in the rankings of both competitions. For double-qualified athletes, a single payment will allow them to participate in both competitions.
- The top 25% of individuals (previously 10%) and teams from each region will advance to the quarterfinals with a minimum of 50 athletes from each division.
- The top 25% of each Age Group in each region will advance to the quarterfinals with a minimum of 200 athletes in each age group.

Semifinals 2024
As with the quarterfinals, the number of athletes entering this stage is also changed.
I the top 40 men and women and the top 30 teams from each continent will advance to the semi-finals. In 2023, the three large regions (North-East America and West America and Europe) they had 60 men and women as slots, while the four smaller regions had 30.
This year, the number of athletes will be the same on all continents. This means that we will have 20 fewer slots in Europe…which means a lot!
Regarding the location and date, this information will be communicated later.
As far as the Age Group and Adaptive, this phase will be online but in 2024 many more people will be called upon to compete.
For age groups the top 200 from the quarter-finals of each age group will advance to the last online phase (last year, only the top 30 qualified!).
Summary:
- Regions and structure: same regions as the quarter-finals, with individual and team competitions.
- Advancement criteria: the best 40 men and women individually and the best 30 teams in each region; the best 200 athletes from each age group access the virtual semi-final.
- Date:
- Semi-final by age groups: from 8 to 13 May.
