I first two workouts of CrossFit® Open 2022 are out and everyone is posting their results on social media. Among all the elite athletes who will try to finish well in the standings there is also her, our Brooke Wells.
No one imagined Brooke would be back so soon, as she just recovered from surgery on her right elbow.
Now we tell you everything!

Brooke Wells and her injury
If you remember correctly, Brooke Wells underwent reconstructive elbow surgery right after a bad accident occurred during the ceiling event snatch (Event 12) in the 2021 Games.
While trying to lift 190 pounds, his elbow wouldn't hold and dislocated. This accident caused her to withdraw from the competition.
Sui there was no shortage of updates on his social networks and we have been following his recovery closely. To our surprise, a few weeks ago, the Buttery Bros - Heber Cannon and Marston Sawyers - shared a video on their YouTube channel of a workout performed alongside Brooke Wells and her sister, Sydney, at the CrossFit® Trivium in Brentwood.
Before training, Sawyers asked Brooke Wells a few questions, regarding the specifics of her surgery and the scar on the inside of her arm.
Here's the video here:
During the warm-up, which consisted of stretching, kettlebells, and rotator cuff work, Sawyers joked with Brooke Wells asking if any "hardware" was installed in her elbow during the surgery.
For information, here's the extent of the injury Wells sustained during the 2021 CrossFit® Games:
- Complete rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL)
- High degree rupture of the lateral collateral
- The flexor tendon has detached from the bone
Although there were no fractures or damage to the surface of the joint, reconstructive surgery was still required.
Her operation was performed in Los Angeles, California, where she also followed up with physical therapy sessions for three hours a day for five weeks.

After that, you are pinch (made with three fingers) a full month off from training before getting back into aerobic work, single dumbbell movements and, finally, barbell training.
now Brooke Wells appears to be able to train normally, as if she is almost completely healed. She performed handstand shoulder taps, an exercise in which the entire body weight is supported by the elbows. He also did handstand push-ups, strict pull-ups and overhead presses with what appeared to be 225lbs, without too much trouble!
Despite performing these exercises, Brooke Wells admits that some skills still give her problems. For example, her rack position has not returned to 100% as she has "lost some mobility" in her right arm.
In addition, he cannot yet train the kipping movements and has not attempted to go down "hard" with the weights on the bar.
Buttery Bros vs. the Wells Sisters
The Buttery Bros clashed in the following training against the Wells sisters:
10 rounds - 90 seconds on / 90 seconds off:
8 hang power cleans (65 pounds)
8 thrusters (65 pounds)
Maximum calories on the echo bike (during the remaining time)
The team with the most calories burned on the echo bike at the end of the workout won.
The Buttery Bros got a head start that slowly dissipated as the wod progressed.
They eventually managed to stay ahead in the final round as well, burning four total calories more than the Wells sisters.
